Renewable energy expo witnesses grand opening
The 7th Renewable Energy India 2013 Expo at the national capital witnessed a grand opening on the first day of the expo with participation of companies from across the globe and over a 1000 Industry experts at the India Expo Centre, Greater Noida. As always the event has proved to be Asia’s largest and the most influential platform to address the challenges of the Renewable Energy Industry and to showcase the best innovative technological solutions available to overcome them. The event brings together decision makers and influencers as well as technical experts and professionals from leading companies involved in the renewable energy generation, transmission and distribution within India and around the world.
The dignitaries present at the event were Hiroyuki Ishige, chairman, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO); Keiya Iida, deputy director, General for Trade Policy and Trade Policy Bureau, ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry (METI), Govt. of Japan; Sadao Wasaka, exec. director, New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization(NEDO); John M McCaslin, minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs US Commercial Service, US Embassy, New Delhi; Sanjay Chakrabarti, Partner, Ernst & Young; His Excellency Pierre Vaesen, Ambassador of Belgium to India and Joji George, managing director, UBM, India.
Using this opportunity, NEDO(New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) unveiled technology specific reports on ‘Indo-Japan Joint Research on small wind power, micro hydro power and lingocullosic biofuels in India’ and ‘Smart Grid Report’ and while E&Y unveiled their key industry report on ‘Mapping India’s Renewable Energy Growth Potential’, which listed India’s immense potential in the renewable energy space.
Chairing the conference on JNNSM (Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission), Tarun Kapoor, joint secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) said, “Investment in renewable energy is expected to almost quadruple to Rs 3,186 billion in the 12th FYP from Rs 892 billion in the 11th FYP, implying annual investments of nearly Rs 640 billion. India has about 28.1 GW of installed renewable energy capacity, with wind and solar accounting for 19.1 GW and 1.7 GW respectively. Although the share of renewable energy in the generation mix has been rising over the years, India still has a large untapped renewable energy potential”
He further added, “REI 2013 provides a unique platform for the government and the industry to interact and form partnerships and to create favorable policy frameworks to successfully meet the challenges and opportunities that are present in India’s renewable energy sector.”
Leading associations like Global Solar Alliance, Panchabuta, Indian Biomass Power Association, Maharashtra Solar Manufacturers Association (MASMA), WIPPA, Solar Power Developers Association, Tamil Nadu Solar Energy Developers Association (TNSEDA) and Solar Thermal Federation of India (STFI) are supporting REI 2013 to accelerate advancements in sustainable environments. Some more honorable organizations supporting REI are C-WET (Centre for Wind Energy Technology), set up by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India.
Renewable Energy India 2013 Expo had participation from leading companies like Jinko, Yingli, LTi, Bonfiglioli, Sun Power, GE, Sun Edison, Ballard Power, Borg Energy, Suzlon, Sterling and Wilson, Refex Energy, Enerparc Energy, Applied Material (AMAT) and from more than 25 countries, some of them are Japan, Canada, China, Germany, Sweden, Malaysia, Austria, Switzerland and Portugal which will present their latest technologies and solutions.
Joji George, managing director, UBM India, says, “Renewable Energy India 2013 Expo, has provided a tremendous platform, bringing policy makers and Industry experts together in bridging India’s energy demand-supply gap. There are challenges with respect to cost of production, awareness, financing and infrastructure, etc. which must be overcome soon for faster growth and mainstreaming the applications of renewable energy in our lives.”
