European Energy Producers Commit to No New Coal Plants after 2020

Europe’s leading energy companies have announced that they will build no new coal-fired power plants in the European Union after 2020, in support of the goals agreed by international community under the 2015 Paris Climate Change Agreement. The central goal of the Paris Agreement is to keep the maximum global average temperature rise as close as possible to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Donald Trump has launched a far-reaching effort to undo Barack Obama’s environmental legacy, signing an executive order that rolls back the former president’s action against climate change and boosts fossil fuel power. Mr Trump heralded the order on Tuesday as a “new era in American energy” that would “eliminate federal over-reach” and do away with “job-killing regulations”.
